A story about Winmallee Royal Reine (Royal Hit)

Looking forward to my beautiful Winmallee Royal Reine going to the breed show at Mt Pleasant this weekend. I absolutely love this horse to bits. She has been a complicated girl to train but all the hard work and time has paid off. So important to find out the personality and strengths and weaknesses of your horse. Royal Reine has been a very dominant mare and the training of this mare has taken me down a different path to others. I have enjoyed every minute working out what works best for HER and not about what works best for me. As a yearling she started to show her dominance toward people and horses and her training started when she started to show this. Lots of ground work and lots to keep her mind occupied as she is a VERY smart young lady. She picks up on your personality very quickly and works people out.

As people would have seen at her first show a few weeks ago she did not want to go into the ring. She can be a very opinionated mare and this is why I took her out to her first show to see how she would react. She did not want to go anywhere with me on the saddle but was fine with me on the ground. She works so nicely in the arena as this is familiar to her but out she said NO WAY. This girl has a lot of education behind her but she is very inexperienced as she is young. This is where people get things very wrong and think she is green. There is a big difference between Green and Inexperienced.

So we had to go to her first show under saddle to work out what the next part of her training would be, and this is where I do not worry what people think about her behaviour as this is about her and not anyone else. The next stage was to start riding her out off the property and show her she can be brave and that I will always be there for her even though I am on top instead of on the ground.

This went really well so it was time to take her out to a show again to see how this has worded. Well it just went PERFECT, no problems with going in the ring with other horses and being around different things, she was happy and listened to me every step of the way. This is why I love this horses so much. She tries so hard and she wants to please but always likes to have her say, and there is nothing wrong with that as I do like a horse to have their own opinion.

Many people would have given up on her as it has taken a lot of hours training and just living with her with every day tasks to learn what she is about. She runs up to me every day when she sees me walking down the raceway, so I always stop and say hello and tell her that I love her.

I love this horse with all my heart and thank her for teaching me so much about different personalities. I look forward to the fu
ture with her.

MANOLO CLINIC MARCH 2014

We had a fantastic clinic with Manolo and I was riding Winmallee Royal Reine.

In Hand Work – I am so inspired that I have been to one of Manolo’s clinics which I have been waiting to do so for a long time. Last time he was here it was foaling time so had no chance to slip away to watch or take a horse. This time was amazing... I have been waiting to find someone who trains the way I have been taught all my life. I have been training 'Classically' for 43 years and was looking for someone to inspire me and have as a mentor.

I was getting very disheartened as the Classical side of riding is slipping away from us and people are trying to get a quick fix for training as it all seems to be about the money.  It has become a very sad place for horses when it comes to training as they are not given the chance to have a say, or voice their opinions they just get told instead of being asked. People have lost their manners when training horses just like the young people these days who have not been taught their "please & thank you's".

I also compete with my horses and I am horrified at how people treat their horses out there, and get crucified in the ring for being soft with a light contact. I WILL continue this way as one day things might change.

The biggest thank you to Manolo for coming into my life and reassuring me that all has not been forgotten. I love this man's heart and brain, I love the way he feels and communicates with the horses and human, it is all about a loving respect.

What a mentor, what a man!

Thank you from a newly inspired Amanda Evins from Winmallee Classical Riding.
MANOLO CLINIC 2014

Well what a fantastic time we all had here in SA listening and learning from Manolo. Personally I was so inspired with how he worked with the horses as this is what I have done all my life. It has been very hard as people can be very critical about this way of training, as they do not understand the needs of the horse, they only worry about their needs. Working with the horse’s brain and how they feel is the only way to get a true connection so you can be ‘as one with your horse’.

What a wonderful way he connects with the horse and so soft and thoughtful of their feelings. I am in awe of this man and his talent. Manolo is also just a wonderful person to be with even away from the horses, with a great sense of humour and an amazing lightness about him. Manolo stayed at Winmallee Classical Riding which was fantastic to hear about his life stories, getting to know him made riding the next day so much easier, I did not have to hold back on my riding as I could be completely honest with him. A small group of us got together one night and went out to dinner and we laughed and had fun. Observing all the lessons was an absolute treat, learning about everyone’s horses.

What a mentor this gentleman makes with so much knowledge and a very big heart. Thank you Manolo for coming into my life.
