BREED SHOW AT NORTHERN EQUESTRIAN CENTRE

10th May 2015

Last Breed show for the season (thank goodness)! Big day for both horses and a long way to travel to Northern Equestrian Centre. Successful day but De Nisha, the big Ranger Filly was a handful! She is huge and only 2 years old and hates being separated from the horse that gets floated with her. She shows amazingly by herself but with company... a pain!! I know she will grow out of this just like Royal Reine is doing. These chestnut mares can be a handful.

Thank you to my amazing strappers Dakota Jones & Jane McDonald for doing a great job keeping the big girl sorted for me.

Little (large) Ferdinand was a good boy, was a little unsettled because of De Nisha.
He behaved so well for a 7 month old foal and first time travelling with another horse
besides mum.

RESULTS:

WINMALLEE FERDINAND (Ampere IFS):
2nd - Best presented foal & Handler.
2nd - Handler over 40 years

2015 EQUESTRIAN SA SHOW HORSE OF THE YEAR
16th October 2015

I am feeling extremely proud of Winmallee Royal Reine

Today we went to the "2015 Equestrian SA Show Horse Of The Year".

The morning did not start how I planned with arriving at the showgrounds and realising I had left all my paper work at home. So thank god I had the AMAZING Dakota Jones with me who prepared Reine including all her make up, as I had to take the float off and drive back home to Echunga. I left at 7.30am and my first event was at 9.10am.

Well I make it with 1 minute to spare so straight on Reine and in the event with no warm up.  She was a good girl and we came 4th with the Judge saying that she was an absolutely amazing horse and it was a pity I got no warm up time.

Then we competed in the "Owner Rider Hack/Hunter Of The Year"
We came "RUNNER UP

So so very proud of Reine especially in such a big line up.

Thank you so much Dakota for all your help and support. We are the "A" Team.

Horse and Rider Straightness Training Workshops

Schooling the rider’s body to release their one-sidedness in preparation for training the horse, is a neglected topic that most people don’t think about. We spend all our time focusing on how the rider’s position should look, with next to no attention on the wonky foundation it is built upon.

Art is a deep release therapy that dissolves crookedness at its very core by combining the, Alexander Technique, Feldenkrais and NLP. You can only dissolve spinal twists which are the root cause of our wonky foundation holistically. Trying to manipulate parts of your body into, “looking the part,” only builds more layers of crookedness on top of your already wonky foundation.
“Good riding creates a balanced horse. Balance means you keep the whole body working well as a unit.”

Dr Gerd Heuschmann author of, "Tug of war.

F M Alexander said often, “Stop doing the wrong thing and the right thing will do itself.” If you think about it for a moment that is the very opposite to traditional training. ART shares the mental and physical training of both horse and rider equally by combining the Alexander Technique, Feldenkrais, NLP and a good dose of common sense. Riders get a head start in their riding because they take time to work on their position away from the horse. They replace the stress and strain associated in riding, with a calm intelligence. They fully understand why they need to school dissolve natural crookedness during riding. They use mental rehearsal to eliminate unconscious habits that sabotage their success. They learn ancient breathing techniques to calm their mind and improve their posture from the inside out.

FANTASTIC RESULTS FOR WINMALLEE
21st October 2015

Some more FANTASTIC results for Winmallee Classical Riding & Warmbloods.  We have won some wonderful awards with our wonderful Warmbloods.

AWHA HORSE OF THE YEAR AWARDS:

WINMALLEE DE NISHA (De Niro) - LED Warmblood Mare of the Year. OVERALL LED WARMBLOOD OF THE YEAR

WINMALLEE FERDINAND (Ampere) - LED Colt of the Year

WINMALLEE ROYAL REINE (Royal Hit) - RIDDEN Mare of the Year.

All the time, tears and happiness has paid off with breeding these lovely Warmbloods. I am feeling very proud of the Warmbloods we have bred at Winmallee.

A huge thank you to the Australian Warmblood Horse Association (AWHA) Ltd for having these awards that we can compete in. I will always support the AWHA by going to there shows and help where I can.

The next competition is the AWHA NATIONAL TOUR in January, which we are looking forward to.

PARTNERSHIP
31st May 2015

Horse training, in all its forms, has been a way to change the horse’s behaviour in order to meet the needs and desires of the human. The human needs transportation, desires the thrill of show jumping, has cattle to move on the ranch, or wants to entertain people through the thrill of gambling at the track.

To meet those needs and desires, we find an effective training methodology to mould the horse’s behaviour. The focus has been on changing the horse to get what we want. Whether you use traditional or natural means, this is still a one-sided approach.

EA HACK SHOW | ROYAL REINE
16th August 2015

Another great day for Winmallee Royal Reine. Went to first EA Hack Show and wow lots of Royal Show Hacks here. Nice to know that Reine is proving herself amongst them.

1st - Hack 16-16.2hh
2nd - Heavyweight Hack
1st - Hack Over 16hh

Very pleased with the way Reine went today, even though we were both exhausted. Lots of showing lately and we are both feeling it today.

A huge thank you to my wonderful photographer Dakota Jones (& strapper). Also a huge thank you to Stacey Marie Williams for strapping as well. Was fantastic to see Skye Haagmans.

Nice to have great support from great friends which make it all worthwhile.

Thank you to Zena Alliu from LV Brow Bands for the lovely brow band she made up for Winmallee Ferdinand. It is lovely that Zena from LV Brow Bands is sponsoring the Winmallee horses.

A true partnership requires that the needs of both the horse and the human are understood and met. Both parties should be heard, understood, and respected. If we are not meeting the needs of both, it is not a partnership. In addition, both members of the team must grow, learn, and develop.

When we work with horses we have an opportunity to learn the way of the horse and grow on a spiritual level. If we just focus on the development of the horse, we are missing out on the depth of relationship because we are only trying to affect change in half the team.
(living soulfully)

A TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE...

5th June 2015

Going down memory lane. Back in 2008 with Dakota at one of her first shows with Toby. I was so proud of her here winning against much older riders than her. She is now riding all my warmbloods here to help me out and will be leasing Emmy. I have trained this girl from never riding a horse to what she knows now.

Well done Dakota Jones I am so proud of you and very happy to call you my daughter (ring in mum).

I have these lovely photos of her mum which I miss so much. Such a wonderful lady and a best friend. Judy I am looking after our girl. x

One of the hardest decisions to make is coming up far too quickly...

Which stallion am I going to use on this lovely
De Niro filly?

My choices are - Ampère - Dutch Warmblood Stallion, Finest or Sezuan.

I have IFS for all of these stallions and have to now work out who is going to be best with her...

CONGRATULATIONS DAKOTA JONES

DRESSAGE RESULTS
17th May 2015

What a wonderful day at the dressage with Jane McDonald & Dakota Jones - thank you so much for your support, I love you both!

Winmallee Royal Reine proved to me today she can certainly relax at the dressage if I stick to what I know and I have trained all my life. She was amazing and a huge difference through the back with great suppleness. Thank you Nicole Magoffin for helping me to trust in myself and giving me some very helpful riding tips about the Royal Hit horses.

This lovely girl would have come 1st Place (64%) in her first test if she did not step out of the arena 'A'. I went into the corner beautiful but was too close to the edge and she fell out on the shoulder. The judge let me go on and finish the test with scores and it was amazing.

2nd place (63.152%) in the 2nd test with another wonderful test and staying in the arena.

It was lovely to ride a very happy horse who gave me everything.

ALDINGA BAY RIDING CLUB

FOAL SHOW AT TILLING HILL

3rd May 2015

Another fantastic successful day with Winmallee Ferdinand (Ampere). We went to a huge foal show at Tilling Hill today. Ferdinand was an absolute pleasure to handle and he went to the show all by himself. He floated amazingly by himself and led like a dream.

A massive thank you to Dakota Jones & Sue Parkinson for helping me today. Thank you Sue for the lovely soup.

NICOLE MAGOFFIN CLINIC
1st July 2015

I went to another Nicole Magoffin clinic and it was fantastic!!

Reine & De Nisha were amazing. 4 days of great lessons for both the girls. Nicole absolutely loved De Nisha and commented on how much she has matured in the mind. She rated De Nisha a 10 or of 10 for trainability and ride ability, which is fantastic. Nicole rode Reine and this is her favourite horse as she is not your usual type. Reine always has a lot to say and Nicole likes this in a horse. Reine is by Royal Hit and Nicole has 12 at the moment in training with her. Nicole understands these horses and they are all stamped the same from Royal Hit and they do not like to use their backs. There is nothing complicated about them at all, if they don’t use their backs so many things stem from that.

Nicole will be back down in August 19th – 22nd and people are more than welcome to come and watch.

IF YOU HAVE HORSE RIDING LESSONS... PLEASE READ THIS
5th June 2015

If you have horse riding lessons can you please read through this. This is what an instructor goes through. This is what is called passion and is exactly what we go through. I love teaching as this is my choice in life and following a passion. There is a lot of hard work and long hours behind the scene that people do not realise.

The labour of love and passion.

OLDENBURG VERBAND 58th SUMMER AUCTION

9th June 2015

  1. Liberate yourself – They are things that you need to give up as they do not belong near the horse. Give up your need for being right, give up your need for control, give up your need for blame, give up your need to impress others, give up on your agenda and most importantly give up on your expectations. Give up all theses things that horses do not care for, just a couple of hour a day, live the moment and when nice things happen welcome them and be grateful.
  2. Spend time doing “nothing” – People want things, and they want them quick. They underestimate the importance to be with their horses within a social context without expecting anything specific from them. The point in this is to allow the horse to come interact with you out of his own initiative; coming to say hello, graze near you, ask for a scratch, wanting to be with you. This is where liberty starts! You may give your horse a piece of carrot when leaving as ‘thank you’ for spending time with you but the idea is not buy your horse with treats. Eventually the interaction will get more interesting such as mutual grooming, walking point to point together etc. It’s important to just let the experience happen to you. You can slowly bring objects that the horse may be interested to play with, simply encourage exploration and interaction using voice and body language, again do not try to control your horse’s experience.
  3. Using Positive Reinforcement at Liberty – Once you feel you have developed an healthy relation with your horse you may start asking your horse for small tasks and reward him for doing well using small treats. If your horse feels he had enough do not try to restrict him from leaving. Respect his choices and he will be even more interested in you as a consequence of it.
  4. Cordeo and lead, you may use them if you do not need them – Finally you can introduce the cordeo and a lead to your training. All the steps above are important so the cordeo do not become a tool of restriction but an actual tool of communication during your sessions. (fairhorsemanship.com)

18th October 2015

Winmallee De Nisha did her first two Prelim tests today at the Championships at SVDC. I could not have asked better from her being a young green horse.

2nd - Prelim 1.3 with 72.17% and 23 people competing.
4th - Prelim 1.2 with 65% and 23 people competing.
OVERALL 3rd PLACE IN THE CHAMPIONSHIPS.

Thank you again for Dakota Jones taking the amazing photos and strapping like a champ as usual.

HORSE & RIDER STRAIGHTNESS TRAINING
31st May 2015

Stop doing the wrong thing and the right thing does itself.

It is traditional for riders to be taught to 'sit up tall', which makes them stiffen, and 'keep still' which makes them stiffen even more.
Bolt-uprightness in the rider, only succeeds in blocking their own and their horse's movement, flow and spirit.

ART is a holistic approach, it does not interfere with the body's natural coordination by telling the rider how they 'should' sit, instead, it scrambles confusing, habitual, patterns of crookedness at their very core.

For both horse and rider to achieve graceful, natural posture and avoid unsoundness issues, it is important to know how to stop doing the wrong thing in order for the right thing to do itself.

What is stopping you from achieving natural stress free excellence?

Have you been diagnosed by your trainer as having a collapsed hip?
Does one of your stirrups feel shorter than the other?
Do you loose one or both stirrups?
Do you grip up?
Do you often find yourself with one or both shoulders around your ears?
Do you bank in around corners or sit to one side?
Does your saddle twist or slip to one side?

FIRST HACK SHOW FOR THE YEAR | ROYAL REINE

19th July 2015

De Nisha by De Niro as a yearling being assessed by Hanoverian and passed with flying colours.

Winmallee would like to congratulate Dakota Jones on being an official rider/trainer for Winmallee Classical Riding & Warmbloods. Dakota will be riding and showing the Winmallee horses at the shows & dressage and will be fully sponsored by us.

Dakota started her horse riding with Winmallee at the age of 10 and has learned so much about riding and breeding. She has always been a part of our lives and the horses lives. Dakota knows all the horses inside and out and we fully trust her in every way. Dakota has ridden many horses that we have trained and sold on and she is amazing to watch ride.

Dakota has been having lessons on Winmallee Royal Reine (by Royal Hit) and has been doing an amazing job. Her and Reine have this wonderful bond that just cannot be explained. She will be helping me qualify Reine for the Royal Adelaide show next year and will be riding her in her rider class.

At the moment she has taken on Winmallee Emerald (known as Emmy) who has been the main broodmare for Winmallee. Emmy has been out of work for 7.5 years due to having many wonderful foals. Dakota has been bringing her back into work and will be showing this lovely girl very soon.

Dakota will be helping me break Winmallee De Vyne (by De Niro) in next year and will then be riding and showing her.

I would also like to thank the sponsors for Winmallee Classical Riding for their support:

J B Equine Services, Coopers Rural & Hardware, David Hopkins, from Hopkins Saddlery, Chris Francis (Farrier).

WINMALLEE EMERALD (EMMY)

This is Winmallee Emerald (Emmy) back in 2008 at her one and only show.  She was amazing.

Next week she will be coming back to Winmallee to be trained up again for a school horse. She is turned out at Jane McDonald's place after weaning her last foal.

This lovely girl has foaled 6 horses for me and is now time for a break from foaling.

DRESSAGE SVDC | DE NISHA
20th September 2015

Had a lovely day at dressage. Winmallee De Nisha certainly proved herself to be a great up and coming dressage horse. First test was a prep and we came 1st with 67.89% and idiot me had an error of course in such a simple test (oops) sorry De Nisha.

2nd test was prelim and came 2nd with 61.36%, which was great as she had a racists problem with the grey that competed before her (she hates grey horses) so left canter did not happen so some nice scores of 4s & 3s, which then I had an error or course (my fault again). We moved on and then received 7s & 8s so extremely happy.

First proper comp for this young lady with so many horses and people there. She was extremely calm and I managed to do it all by myself. Thank you Dakota Jones for coming out after the City to Bay run, was lovely to have you there for the second test. Great photos by the way. x (Nicole Magoffin)

LIBERTY STARTS AT LIBERTY

31st May 2015

You don’t need to teach liberty to your horse. Horses already know how to be free, it is just us that need to learn how.

In the equestrian world the definition of liberty would be more like “training a horse to be able to perform tasks without tack”. People seem more bothered by the end result than the process. I believe some of the important reasons behind this are the lack of information, not knowing how to do things differently, and the fear that the horse with which we want a relationship so desperately, will not want to have anything to do with us if he had the choice.
